ou will be working at the Department of History, European Studies and Religious Studies, more specifically at the European Studies, which comprises various chair groups responsible for the Bachelor and MA degrees of European Studies. What are you going to do?
You will be teaching work groups and seminars in the Bachelor’s in European Studies.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of a lecturer or senior lecturer, you will be teaching mostly in the BA programme European Studies. You will primarily be teaching seminars and work groups in the interdisciplinary first-year programme and the major track European politics.
Your main tasks will be:
- teaching seminars and work groups; offering tutorials;
- supervising Bachelor’s theses;
- attending meetings and lectures, preparing for teaching, updating and translating course materials or assignments and selecting teaching methods, in consultation with colleagues and the senior lecturer;
- marking assignments and papers, providing input on tests and test questions and entering marks;
- coordinating practical matters around your own teaching working group (such as handling administrative matters and communicating with students);
- providing individual supervision to students (mentoring, coaching and supervising internships).
Your experience and profile
Candidates need to have the following qualifications:
- You have an MA or PhD degree in political science or a related field;
- you have attained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If you have not attained the UTQ you are required to start with the UTQ track upon commencement of your employment contract and obtain the certificate within three years of employment;
- you are pedagogically/didactically competent (able to cater to students’ starting situation, to teach a curriculum that has already been developed, to supervise students and to make an active contribution in meetings with fellow lecturers);
- you have a good command of the Dutch language or are willing to learn Dutch If you do not speak Dutch, we offer the opportunity to take and pass the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language programme II;
The following are a plus:
- Knowledge of quantitative research methods
- Experience in teaching
- Ability to teach both in English and in Dutch
