Winter School -- Introduction to Computational Social Science: Application of Machine Learning Approaches to Text and Survey Analytics

The Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM) launches the Barcelona RECSM Winter School (February 26th to February 28th, 2020).
 
The Barcelona RECSM Winter School is organized by the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM), located at the Pompeu Fabra University, and it is a three-day program covering one innovative methodological topic each year or edition.

This year we will offer the course “Introduction to Computational Social Science: Application of Machine Learning Approaches to Text and Survey Analytics”. It is an introduction to Computational Social Science by bringing together the analysis of unstructured (text) and structured (surveys) data in social research.

The course will be taught in English.

Target group: Professionals, Researchers, and Students who wish to develop medium-high skills in the analysis of big data employing up-to-date statistical methods. Potential attendees include public opinion practitioners, marketing professionals, and social science students and researchers.

Objective: To provide participants with the knowledge of programming in Python (and some R) and retrieving tweets with Streaming and Rest APIs of Twitter, and learning the basics of predictive analytics using structured data to mine survey data.

Instructor: Dr. Carlos Arcila Calderón, Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Communication at the University of Salamanca, Spain. Ph.D. in Communications and Master in Data Science. Specialist in computational methods in social sciences. (http://diarium.usal.es/carcila/english/)
