2026 IPSA-PPSA Summer School 
Transforming Politics and Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The first edition of the IPSA–PPSA Summer School: Transforming Politics and Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence will be held from 14 to 19 September 2026 in Poznań, Poland. The Summer School is organized in collaboration with IPSA, the Polish Political Science Association (PPSA), and the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. 

The 2026 IPSA-PPSA Summer School offers a series of workshops, each related to one of the cutting-edge techniques in political and communication research. The program provides participants with a review of theories and concepts frequently employed in political science and communication.  

In particular, this Summer School focuses on advancing education in political science and communication methodology, with particular emphasis on the challenges of digital and AI-driven environments. The Summer School aims to create a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment, fostering respectful but critical dialogue between participants and leading scholars in the field.  

This 5-day program is designed for PhD students and early-career scholars (up to 5 years after receiving their PhD diploma) worldwide. It aims to improve the quality of research by strengthening their methodological competencies and analytical skills.

Registration
The Summer School will host up to 20 participants. If you are interested in attending, please apply with the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae (2 pages);
  • Letter of intent (1 page);
  • Project description (3-5 pages). The project could be either your PhD thesis, a research grant proposal, or a paper you have been working on.

The Summer School will offer a wide range of basic and advanced lectures and workshops in the most innovative research methods and techniques in the social sciences. Specifically, it will offer modules addressing cutting-edge challenges in contemporary political science and communication research, including: 

  • The role of artificial intelligence in transforming media environments, political communication, and electoral campaigning;  
  • AI-driven information disorder, trust, and misinformation in digital societies;  
  • Algorithmic communication and the interpretation of mass political language in the digital age;  
  • Methodological challenges and limitations in qualitative research, including interview-based studies with political actors;  
  • Designing qualitative research projects in political science;  
  • Q-methodology and approaches to capturing subjectivity in digital politics, including research on internet voting; 
  • European Social Survey: Challenges of cross-national survey research and comparative data analysis.

In addition, participants of the Summer School will receive high-quality, constructive feedback on their PhD projects and research projects from lecturers, experts and practitioners.   

The Summer School will also offer a chance to visit the Polish Parliament in Warsaw and the Media Research Lab at the University of Warsaw.
