Organized by: RC33 - Logic and Methodology in Sociology

After very careful consideration of all the parameters regarding the Coronavirus outbreak, the RC33 Local Organizers have decided to postpone the 10th International Conference on Social Science Methodology to 7-10 September 2021. The conference will be held in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.

The abstract submission system will reopen so that participants may amend/update their existing work. It will also be possible to submit new proposals. The system will remain open until 31 of January, 2021.

The local host of the conference will be the Department of Social and Political Sciences, University of Cyprus.

RC33 Thematic Focus: Empirical Research and Society

We live in an era of “alternative news” and “climate change denial”. We experience a political life where the populism prevails over scientific evidence. In such turbulent times, it is important for methodologists to investigate how to encourage society to re-focus on robust scientific evidence.

The conference covers the usual methodological interests of our members (qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods).

However, we are also interested in discussing the many underpinnings of empirical methodology: ethical, legal, social and political. We are also interested in investigating how to educate major stakeholders (e.g. politicians, the Press and the public) to become good consumers of research findings. Finally, we are interested in preparing younger people (e.g. primary and secondary education children) to develop into research-oriented citizens, i.e., citizens who expect to get answers from research, rather than from elsewhere.
