The Swiss Political Science Review

The Swiss Political Science Review welcomes proposals for contributions to a special issue on "Covid-19? A Political Science Perspective" to be published in March 2021.

The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly increased the use of knowledge and scientific expertise in policy making. Governments around the world have relied on epidemiologists and virologists to formulate their responses to a public health crisis. However, Covid-19 pandemic is also a public policy matter. The public health crisis exacerbates social and economic inequalities; reshapes multilevel governance arrangements; requires multilateral cooperation; and it affects party politics, public support for the government, and the stability of the political system. Consequently, the management of the Covid-19 pandemic requires insights from political science.

Against this backdrop, we welcome contributions that discuss how political science enhances our understanding of the social, economic, and political implications of the Covid-19 pandemic and how it can inform policymaking in times of a public health crisis. We welcome proposals that offer theoretical, conceptual, or empirical reflections on, but not limited to, the following topics:

• the effectiveness of public health systems;
• the role of the main political actors and their interactions;
• public opinion including (dis)satisfaction with governments' handling of the crisis;
• international cooperation in the management of the crisis.

As a pluralist platform, the SPSR welcomes proposals from all subfields of political science and is open to contributions from different theoretical and methodological traditions, as well as interdisciplinary work drawing on neighbouring disciplines.

This special issue will consist of a collection of shorter research notes https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/pb-assets/assets/16626370/SPSR_Research_Note_Guidelines-1509476630000.pdf  (3.000-5.000 words). Proposals (in English, or in a national language) should be 150 words and be submitted via email to editors@spsr.ch

The deadline for submitting proposals is 31 July 2020. Notifications will be sent by 25 August 2020. In the case of acceptance, research notes should be submitted by 31 October 2020. All contributions will undergo an accelerated peer-review process.
