Eduardo Monteiro was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and grew up in a culturally vibrant environment that nurtured his curiosity for politics, languages, and global affairs. After completing his bachelor's degree in International Relations at IUPERJ and his master's at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), he is currently a PhD candidate in political science at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
Throughout his career, Eduardo has combined academic research, teaching, and international collaboration. He has served as a Country Expert for the V-Dem project, a data entry volunteer for the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker, and has presented his work at conferences across Canada, the USA, Mexico, and Brazil. He has also been active in academic community-building, serving as a mentor and coordinator for the Brazilian Student Association and as personne-ressource at the Université de Sherbrooke.
At UQAM, Eduardo has taught courses on Latin American political systems, engaging students in discussions that connect political theory with contemporary global challenges. His research explores the intersections of right-wing populism, race, and nationalism in different contexts, marked by a commitment to comparative inquiry, critical perspectives, and a focus on how marginalized voices can reshape democratic policies.
In his free time, Eduardo enjoys preparing a good coffee, reading, playing video games or footvolley whenever he is in Rio de Janeiro. Passionate about languages, he speaks Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish.
