IPSA at the 2026 Congress of the Mexican Political Science Association

IPSA was present at the 14th International Congress of Political Science, organized by the Mexican Political Science Association (AMECIP) from 22-25 September 2026 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on the theme, Autocratization, Democratic Backsliding, and Changes in the International System. 

Esperanza Palma (IPSA Executive Committee member), Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar (IPSA Summer Schools Coordinator and President of the Mexican Political Science Association), Carmelo Cattafi (IPSA RC-EC Liaison), Irasema Coronado (former IPSA Vice-President), and Gabriela Ippolito-O'Donnell (Chair of RC54 - Latin American Politics) took part in several panels throughout the 2026 AMECIP Congress.

Esperanza Palma took part in the Gender and Politics panel. Palma and Irasema Coronado also took part in the Gender, Feminism and Contested Politics: Advances, Limits, and Backlash in the United States and Mexico panel. Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar participated in the Regime Change, Democratic Backsliding and Autocratization in Latin America panel. Gabriela Ippolito-O'Donnell and Esperanza Palma also participated in the Democratic Transitions and Erosion: The Legacy of Guillermo O’Donnell panel. Their contributions brought comparative and international perspectives to debates on the challenges currently facing democracy and political science.

IPSA Booth

IPSA hosted an exhibition booth at the AMECIP Congress to promote the 2027 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Rome, as well as IPSA’s other activities and publications, while fostering connections with the Mexican political science community. Members of the IPSA delegation also visited the booth and met with Congress delegates.
