The Finnish Political Science Association Celebrates its 90th Anniversary

The Finnish Political Science Association (FPSA), a long-standing Collective member of IPSA, celebrated its 90th anniversary on 10 October 2025 at the University of Helsinki. The celebration began with a seminar where participants reflected on the association’s history and its current activities, including its publications and the advancement of equality within Finnish universities.

On behalf of IPSA, President Yuko Kasuya sent a congratulatory message highlighting Finland’s contribution to the global political science community and to the advancement of political science. IPSA takes the opportunity to thank Dr. Emilia Palonen from the FPSA for her invaluable contribution as a member of IPSA’s Executive Committee (2021-2025).

About the Finnish Political Science Association
Founded in 1935, the FPSA is one of the oldest political science associations in the world. It plays a pivotal role in promoting political science and fostering scholarly exchange both in Finland and internationally. FPSA is an active member of several national and international organizations, including IPSA, the Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA), the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies, and the Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing.

FPSA’s main activities include publishing the peer-reviewed journal Politiikka, the web journal Politiikasta.fi, which makes social science more accessible to the public, and the book series Pro et Contra. The association also organizes the annual Political Research Days (Politiikan tutkimuksen päivät), the largest political science event in Finland. The newest addition to FPSA’s initiatives is the Early Scholars Network, which connects early-career researchers from different universities across Finland.
