Job Description

This opportunity arises due to a new project undertaken by the ISC from 2026, focused on principles and values for international collaboration in research and innovation. The Science Officer will work primarily on this project, but may contribute work across the full scope of the ISC’s remit. We invite applications to join a dedicated team working across geopolitical, disciplinary and societal boundaries to make the world a better place through science.

Location: Paris area, France. The incumbent should be prepared to conduct world-wide travel.

Contract type: 18-month full-time fixed-term contract (contrat à durée déterminée)
Salary: Dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. If the fixed-term contract (CDD) is not converted into an indefinite contract (CDI), the employee is entitled to an indemnity equal to 10% of the total gross salary earned during the contract. 
Annual leave: 49 days off per year, consisting of 25 days of statutory paid leave and 24 additional days under the Réduction du Temps de Travail (RTT) system (compensatory time off for working a 39-hour workweek).
Other benefits: Meal vouchers (tickets restaurant), 50% of the cost of the travel card for travelling to and from work (“Pass Navigo”), possibility to work remotely on a limited basis.
Work authorization: Applicants must hold a valid French work permit or be a national of an EU member state. The ISC cannot provide visa sponsorship for non-EU applicants.

About the role 

As a Science Officer, you will have the following general responsibilities: 

  • Managing time‐bound projects and programmes; leading on their development; implementation, coordination, communication, reporting and review;
  • Providing topic and methodology expertise and advice internally and externally; representing the ISC at meetings, conferences and other events as required;
  • Contributing to projects led by other ISC staff and members;
  • Liaising internally to ensure project budgetary compliance, communication and policy interfacing, where appropriate, and dissemination of results;
  • Coordinating and connecting individuals across a diverse milieu of academic, scientific, science-policy and intergovernmental organizations.
