Job Description

Professor Olivier Jacques of the School of Public Health of the University of Montreal is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on projects on the political economy of health policies.  

The research program is broad and diverse. It falls within the field of comparative political economy of welfare states. The successful candidate will conduct research in one or several of the following themes:

  • Individual preferences on fiscal, social, and health policies;
  • The positioning and preferences of political parties regarding health policies;
  • The political, institutional, and economic determinants of health policy reforms.

Specific projects will be determined in collaboration with Olivier Jacques. The successful candidate will benefit from the supervision of Olivier Jacques and of the advantages of his network in five research centers in Montreal and at the École de santé publique. He or she will participate in the development of grant projects and the writing of scientific articles.

Profile of the candidate:

  • Completed a PhD in political science, economics, sociology, public policy, or public health, within five years of the start of the appointment;
  • Published scientific articles on at least one of the research topics related to the general research program;
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and/or English;
  • Has a competitive record for applying for postdoctoral fellowships from funding agencies.
  • Has advanced skills in statistics.

Our offer:

  • The start date is flexible. The successful candidate could start as early as 2025 and no later than June 2026. 
  • Salary: CAD 28,571 per year, part-time position (15-20 hours a week).
  • Maximum duration: 2 years.
  • Be affiliated with the Centre de Recherche en Santé Publique and have access to Université de Montréal benefits.
  • The successful candidate will apply to additional funding through a postdoctoral fellowship from a funding agency (e.g., SSHRC, FRQSC).
  • The successful candidate will also be eligible to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship from the Maison des affaires publiques et internationales at the Université de Montréal.
  • This offer represents a supplement to a postdoctoral scholarship.
