Job Description

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in analysis of public institutions. This position is part of the project "Measuring institutional independence: A comparative framework for the study of public bodies", led by Xavier Fernández-i-Marín (Universitat de Barcelona) and Jacint Jordana (Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals-IBEI). Funded by the Spanish Research Agency (AEI), IN2PB theoretically and empirically examines the independence of public bodies, focusing on the measurement of different formal and behavioural dimensions, including their autonomy and accountability.

The search is open to scholars with an interest in the study of public administration and methodological issues related to measurement in social sciences. Previous experience on the quantitative analysis of public bodies would be highly valued. Key responsibilities include involvement in a large dataset development, preparing manuscripts for publication, and communicating the research findings of the IN2PB project to broad academic and professional audiences.

Successful applicants must have obtained their PhD in political science, international relations, or related fields before the start date. However, an appointment as a pre-doctoral researcher is possible until the PhD is conferred. Applicants must possess excellent English language skills, encompassing both oral and written fluency. The postdoctoral researcher will be an integral member of the IN2PB team at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), working in Barcelona. We are committed to fostering synergies between the research agenda of the postdoctoral researcher and the IN2PB project, as well as supporting his/her academic career development.

Review of applications will commence on 15 November 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date for this position is no later than 28 February 2026.
