The Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg solicits applications for a 4-year PhD position in the field of international politics.

The department is highly research-active and characterized by a high degree of internationalization in teaching and research. The recruitment of faculty from top institutions around the world and a clear focus on excellence in research have become distinctive features.

The key features of the advertised position are as follows:

  • Planned start of employment: 1 October 2025;
  • Duration of employment: 4 years;
  • Employment level in hours per week: 30;
  • Working time: by arrangement;
  • Employment requirements: MA in political science or a closely related discipline (e.g., International Relations); ability to connect well to the research carried out within the field of International Politics at the University of Salzburg (e.g., on public opinion and IR or trade policy);
  • Areas of responsibility: Independent research activities including writing a PhD thesis; academic support in research and teaching in the field of international politics; administrative tasks; independent teaching of two semester hours per week, starting from the second year of employment;
  • Desired additional qualifications: methodological competence and willingness to expand methodological knowledge; excellent command of English (written and spoken); international study experience;
  • Desired personal characteristics: enjoyment of academic work and working with students; Independence, ability to work in a team, reliability, ability to work under pressure and flexibility.
