We have a vacancy for a Ph.D. at The Department of Sociology and Political Science.
The PhD-position is a temporary position for a period of three years. The position may be ascribed teaching obligations and extended with up to one year.
The PhD position is an educational position that gives a promising research recruit the possibility for scientific development. The research field for the position is political behaviour, and the position is connected to the research group “Elections, Values and Political Communication (EVPOC)”. The position is not tied to a specific project, but projects on the political integration of immigrants, voter responses to immigration, or the political consequences of changes in the labour market are of particular interest. Strong training in quantitative research methods is necessary and an interest in causal inference will be considered as a strength. The candidate will be supervised by Associate Professor Henning Finseraas.
Required selection criteria
PhD candidate:
- The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is completion of a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in political science or economics, or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be admitted only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English.
- The quality of the PhD project sketch (1,500 words maximum).
- Strong training in quantitative research methods and an interested in causal inference will be considered advantageous.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

- 2-3 references
Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.
In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal suitability.
