Job Description

The World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) and publisher Oxford University Press invite applications and nominations for the position of Editor(s) in Chief of the International Journal of Public Opinion Research (IJPOR).

The International Journal of Public Opinion Research is the official publication of WAPOR. Subscription to this publication is included as a benefit of membership in WAPOR. It also may be ordered directly from the publisher, Oxford University Press. The IJPOR is a leading journal of public opinion and survey research that reaches a global audience.

We seek an editor or editorial team who will be responsible for processing manuscripts submitted to the journal, ensuring timely publication of four issues each year, and working with guest editors for special-topics issues that might arise. The editor also works with Oxford University Press staff and WAPOR’s Publications Committee to strengthen the reputation of IJPOR. For more information on IJPOR’s aims and scope, please see https://academic.oup.com/ijpor. Respecting the time commitment required to edit a prestigious journal such as IJPOR, it is common for an Editor’s home institution to provide some support. Typical forms of support might involve course releases, editorial assistantships for students, flexible funding, and other resources that allow an Editor the time and resources needed to successfully accomplish editorial duties. WAPOR will provide additional financial support that is commensurate with the details of the proposal. The search committee is willing to discuss with the candidate the exact nature of that additional support.

The term of the current editors, Paul R. Brewer, University of Delaware, and Michael A. Xenos, University of Wisconsin – Madison, ends on 31 August 2021, and the transition to the new editorial team begins 1 September 2021. The new editor(s) will serve a three-year term from 1 September 2021 through 31 August 2024. Interested parties should send applications to Jibum Kim, Chair of the WAPOR Publications Committee, at jbk7000@skku.edu. Applications should include, at minimum: (1) a copy of the applicant’s CV; (2) a vision statement for the journal, including ways to achieve diversity among the editorial team, proposals for special issues on topics that could reach out to a more diverse readership or other initiatives to engage with issues of contemporary relevance; and (3) a letter from the applicant’s or applicants institution(s), setting out the forms of support they are prepared to provide the editors(s).

Full consideration will be given to applications that arrive by 1 March 2021.
