CRC Tier 1 – Climate-Related Migration and Displacement (Full Professor or Associate Professor)

The Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria invites applications from external candidates for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Climate-Related Migration and Displacement. The successful applicant will be nominated by the University for a CRC chair and, upon approval by the CRC Secretariat, will then be offered an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The CRC chair is tenable for seven years, and is renewable once after successful performance review. The successful candidate’s research program will address the interaction of climate change and extreme climate events with human migration and/or displacement. The CRC’s scholarly activity will contribute to the University of Victoria’s existing world-class research on climate change and migration, supporting research related to the political dimensions of extreme climate events, migration, and displacement. The applicant is expected to maintain an active research program, to teach and supervise at the graduate level, and to build and expand the department’s offerings on the environment and climate change.
Qualifications
Tier 1 CRC’s are for exceptional researchers, already acknowledged by their peers as leaders in the field.
The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in Political Science or a closely related discipline. The candidate will be an established, world-class researcher who has developed an original and innovative future research plan with the potential to attract external funding and international recognition. The candidate is expected to have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and student supervision, including efforts to create an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body. Furthermore, the candidate will demonstrate the potential for collaboration with a diverse range of colleagues. Finally, the candidate will provide evidence of knowledge mobilization and dissemination from their research to academic and community audiences.
