This presentation will explore gender within the context of forced eviction and violence imposed by the state. It analyses the vulnerabilities associated with the everyday lives of women who have faced forced eviction, their daily struggles, their collective experiences of grief and coping with the loss of property and living with only memories of home. It adapts a case study, documenting narratives, particularly of marginalised tribal women living in informal settlements in Guwahati city, the largest urban agglomeration in the entire Northeast region of India characterised by land contestation, identity politics, conflict, and violence.
