Journal/Call for Papers Description

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought Europe in some ways closer to the rest of the world, as European countries' experiences with the virus have found echoes in many other nations. This special issue encourages a conversation and reflection by scholars from different disciplines on the topic of the experience, behaviour and management in Europe during the Covid-19 pandemic. While reflections on the individual European countries' experiences with Covid-19 are welcome, we encourage researchers to adopt a comparative approach and to consider the impact on Europe and the European Union as a whole.

This special issue aims to contribute to a transdisciplinary perspective on Covid-19 in Europe. A transdisciplinary approach-transgressing disciplinary boundaries by not viewing disciplines as independent, divided domains-has been successfully applied to the field of European studies before, for example in the study of Europe's responses to terrorist attacks. It is increasingly encouraged in the study of sustainable global futures and "wicked problems" such as Covid-19. Almost a year into the pandemic, we hope that his special issue will provide critical and insightful perspectives on what was done and where we stand in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe, and inform European and global moves going forward. Finally, it is our aim to demonstrate how global problems such as Covid-19 affect both Europe and other countries including New Zealand, and how knowledge sharing can help solve them.

Submissions may take the form of full research articles or essays, review articles, commentaries, or research notes. We encourage the contributors to build on our blog series that inspired this special issue.

How to submit:

About the journal
New Zealand Journal of Research on Europe (NZJRE) is the official journal of the Europe Institute at the University of Auckland (prior to 2015, the title was Europe-New Zealand Research Series). The journal publishes new research on a variety of Europe and European Union topics, past, present, and future, especially integrating Asia-Pacific and Australasian relations and shared concerns. NZJRE invites individual submissions as well as proposals for special issues on relevant topics of wide interest. Articles and proposals for special issues are welcome from any discipline, including business, economics, politics, languages, literature, education, and history. Interdisciplinary research perspectives are especially encouraged. "Europe" is defined broadly as the entire continent from Iceland to Russia and may include one or more of the former Soviet Republics (members of the Commonwealth of Independent States), EU candidate countries and the European Neighbourhood.
