Event Details

The 13th International Congress of Political Science, organized by the Mexican Political Science Association (AMECIP), will be held virtually on 4 August and in person from 5 to 8 August 2025 at the Graduate Studies Unit of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. This year’s Congress will be held under the theme Women and Democracy: Political Participation and Challenges for an Inclusive Future.

The AMECIP 2025 Congress will bring together the academic and student community, along with representatives of key institutions, to analyze the progress and challenges of democracy and women’s political participation. The central theme of the congress focuses on the advances women have achieved in various countries, especially in Latin America, through the approval of quotas and parity laws. Electoral reforms and feminist movements have enabled women to access political spaces, not only in national legislatures but also in presidential offices and other key government positions.

Despite these achievements, many democracies face challenges regarding the representation of women in contexts where democratic regimes are under strain, or where women in leadership roles promote policies that may undermine democratic principles. Furthermore, in many countries, political gender-based violence, femicides, and other forms of violence remain persistent problems, posing serious threats to the development of an inclusive democratic project.

Participants are invited to propose panels and individual papers that explore, from a variety of theoretical, empirical, and methodological approaches, the role of women in politics, gender-based violence, and other key and contemporary issues in political science. These include electoral behavior, democratic transformations, party systems, challenges facing bureaucracies and public administrations, issues related to justice and accountability, human mobility and migration in the context of international politics, and the impact of political science in the era of artificial intelligence.
