2016
In 2016, in a joint venture with Federica Web Learning, the Center for Multimedia Education of the University of Naples Federico II, IPSA began offering IPSAMOOCs, a set of political science Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). MOOCs are a new format for higher education that offers an open environment for collaborative learning worldwide.
Authored by some of the most distinguished academics in the IPSA community, IPSAMOOCs offer political science courses free of charge to a wide number of users: students who are considering or starting a degree in political science; professors and lecturers looking for innovative ways to supplement their existing courses; or anyone interested in a better understanding of the challenges facing contemporary democracies.
IPSAMOOCs are available on edX, the leading MOOCs platform founded by Harvard & MIT. All courses are open, with certification available for learners who complete the content and assignments. A Spanish version of IPSAMOOCs was also launched in 2021 on edX, to foster IPSA's commitment to the Global South. Federica Web Learning has consolidated the use of MOOCs in connection with the IPSA-Federica Summer School - Concept Analysis in the Web Environment in Capri, with the first module always offered online and the second on campus.
The success of the IPSAMOOC project highlighted the importance of a dissemination strategy focused on increasing global distribution capacity, with particular attention to the Global South and the Americas. To achieve this goal, an updated version of IPSAMOOCs was launched in 2023 on Coursera, the world's leading MOOC platform, with 100 million learners enrolled in more than 5,000 courses.
