There are many ways for citizens to participate in political process of a nation. Political participation can take place through voting, protest etc. Voting is legal and formal way of participation where as protest is informal and constitutional way of participation in democratic world.
The election conducting body is formally and conventionally responsible for electoral literacy of citizens which impacts the voting behavior and voter’s turnout. Media is fourth pillar of democratic system. So, it has also the responsibility to keep the citizens aware of political activities and process.
The role of electronic media in political and electoral literacy of citizens has become more important in comparison to print media. After information and communication technology (ICT) revolution, especially Generation Z voters have more engagement with social media for political awareness and other related issues.
So, the proposed panel will be discussing, analyzing and exploring the role of media (social media included) and ICT in political participation of Gen Z voters in different forms of political system in general and democratic system in particular.
