What makes states more or less prone to design trade agreements of various scopes? By bringing together papers that discuss the formation of bilateral deals and mega-trade agreements covering diverse issue areas, the panel provides an overview of the state-of-art of free trade zones and customs union in an age in which many scholars and analysts in general take for granted the existence of an ongoing process of deglobalization due to protectionist demands which, in fact, tend to reflect specific interests than broad demands from non-state actors.
