Liberal democracy faces challenges from illiberal movements, majoritarian politics, authoritarian models, and dissatisfaction with democratic institutions. This panel invites papers on how these alternatives are articulated and tested in Asian political settings. Contributions may examine debates over rights, representation, constitutional limits, political participation, and the rule of law, as well as efforts to renew liberal democracy or develop other democratic arrangements responsive to local conditions.
