This session examines long-run climate change assessment for sustainable development, taking into account new technologies such as AI in its dual role as a major emitter through data centres and a driver of new carbon removal and strategic development.
Methodological aspects such as game theory in political science, IR, and long-run world economics are welcome, with the aim of finding the right balance between past, current, and unborn future generations.
Ethical concerns about balancing generations are welcome, and the trilemma Dani Rodrik presented between the nation-state, globalisation, and development is re-examined.
Either quantitative or qualitative approaches are welcome, such as game theory, econometrics, overlapping generations models (OLGs), qualitative analysis (surveys and interviews) and AI assessment take-up.
A trend toward longer-run thinking (2050 and 2100) for the world as a whole is assessed through climate change assessments, precautionary principles, tipping points, and the future of humankind.
Shorter-run papers looking at conjunctures, such as different wars, namely regional conflicts, namely resource fighting and displaced, e.g. migrants due to climate change, are welcomed.
The glue is assessing the future of mankind, its strategic interactions (within and with AI), and world development through 2050 and 2100. Papers on the Global South are particularly welcome, given its role in climate change and global development.
