Borders Under Pressure: Reimagining Governance for Human Mobility Between Digital Authoritarianism and Democratic Resilience

This panel offers a critical, interdisciplinary space to examine mobility governance as a site of contestation where states, international organizations, non-state actors, and migrants converge and collide. We interrogate four interrelated axes: (1) the erosion of liberal frameworks through populist rhetoric, digital authoritarian practices, and the dismantling of social rights and public services; (2) the transformation of borders into dynamic, multi-layered spaces shaped by securitization, humanitarian interventions, externalization, and local resistance; (3) the everyday politics of multiethnic coexistence, including contested models of integration, social cohesion, and diversity governance; and (4) the disruptive implications of the "AI revolution" for mobility—from biometric surveillance and predictive risk assessment to algorithmic bias and the automation of asylum procedures.
