Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights and the Uncertain Future of Democracy

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the relationship between citizens, states, markets, and political institutions. From automated decision-making and predictive systems to generative AI, surveillance, and algorithmic governance, AI creates new opportunities for participation and public administration while also generating profound challenges for human rights, equality, privacy, accountability, and democratic control. This panel invites contributions that examine how AI is reshaping the politics of human rights and the conditions of democratic governance. It welcomes both theoretical and empirical approaches to questions such as: Who should govern AI? How can human rights constrain algorithmic power? What happens to democratic accountability when decisions are increasingly mediated by opaque technological systems? And how might AI alter the balance between state power, corporate power, and individual rights?
