For many Global South countries, institutionalizing SDG 5 ( gender equality ) is an incomplete task. Gaps in localizing SDG 5 targets means government interventions are falling short in effecting desired changes in women’s access to resources, especially health and education, and leadership positions. Left out of the decision making tables, government initiatives could not be fully leveraged to advance gender equality.
The panel invites papers that examine structural, socioeconomic and cultural factors behind lagging and regressing SDG 5 targets in Global South sub national or local cases. Papers tackling enabling and constraining conditions, underlying mechanisms and outcome of interventions by government, civil society and private sector are welcome. Topics on national-local ties, international assistance, planning and fiscal decision making geared towards gender equality are also encouraged.
