IPSA is pleased to announce that Professor Neera Chandhoke will be a plenary speaker at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul on 16 July 2025. Her keynote, titled Legal Autocracy in South Asia, will examine how autocrats in the region undermine democratic institutions through legislation while maintaining the facade of democracy.
IPSA President Pablo Oñate will chair the IPSA President’s Plenary session at the 2025 IPSA World Congress on 15 July 2025 at 13:45. The plenary, titled Populism, Polarization and the Consequences on Democracy, will feature the following distinguished scholars who will explore the challenges posed by populism and polarization:
We are delighted to announce that Carlos Pereira has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Guillermo O'Donnell Award for Latin American Scholars. Prof. Pereira, Professor at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV EBAPE) in Rio de Janeiro, will deliver an award lecture titled Between Threat and Breakdown: Understanding Democratic Resistance in Latin America at the 28th IPSA World Congress in Seoul on 13 July 2025.
Nominations are now open for the Wilma Rule Award on Gender and Politics, which will be presented at the 2025 IPSA World Congress. IPSA Research Committees (RCs), especially RC07 - Women and Politics in the Global South and RC19 - Gender Politics and Policy, panel convenors and chairs at the 2025 IPSA World Congress are invited to submit nominations by 20 June 2025.
The IPSA Committee on Organization, Procedures, and Awards (COPA) is excited to announce that Zaynab El Bernoussi has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Global South Award. El Bernoussi, Associate Professor of Political Science at the Africa Institute, will deliver an award lecture titled From the Global South to the World: Tracking Dignity Demands and the International Political Economy at the 28th IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul on 15 July 2025.

The IPSA Committee on Organization, Procedures, and Awards (COPA) is pleased to announce that T.V. Paul (McGill University) has been selected as the recipient of IPSA’s newly established Kim Dae-jung Award. In recognition of this honor, Prof. Paul will participate in the Kim Dae-jung Award Roundtable at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science on 14 July 2025. The focus of the roundtable will be on global peace, democracy, and human rights.
The IPSA Committee on Organization, Procedures, and Awards (COPA) is pleased to announce that Hyeong-ki Kwon has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Karl Deutsch Award. As part of this prestigious recognition, Prof. Kwon will deliver the Karl Deutsch Prize Lecture, titled Openness and Coordination: National Economies of the U.S., Japan, and Germany in a Globalized World, at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul on 14 July 2025.
