Job Description

The Department of Society Studies is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral researcher to collaborate on an exciting research project seeking to understand the effects of fiscal policy and the biases of taxation regimes on automation in Europe. You will be offered the opportunity to take the lead on the quantitative work packages of the project where you will be tasked with the creation and analysis of an original dataset of fiscal policy stances and their effects on automation in Europe.

As such, you will be offered the opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience across a variety of BA and MA programmes, such as the BA in European Studies, the BA in Digital Society and the MA in European Studies

This position will be part of the Politics and Culture in Europe (PCE) research programme. PCE is an interdisciplinary research environment where you will engage with colleagues from across disciplines to develop collaborative research and contribute to the active research environment of the group, and FASoS at large.

  • You will lead the design and implementation of the project's quantitative work packages;
  • You will collaborate on the design and implementation of the project’s case studies;
  • You will support administrative aspects of the project;
  • You will work together with other researchers at FASoS, but closely with the coordinator of the project;
  • You will contribute to teaching in a variety of BA and MA programmes, such as the BA in European Studies, the BA in Digital Society and the MA in European Studies;
  • You are expected to align with Maastricht University’s core values of academic citizenship, leadership, teamwork, and impact/open science as developed within the framework of the Dutch Recognition and Reward policy.

Requirements

Candidates should have a background in political science of political economy (writ broadly) and should be highly motivated to collaboratively work on questions of technological change in capitalist democracies.
