Job Description
FASoS is looking for an Assistant Professor within its Department of Politics with experience in teaching and research related to European Security.
- You will contribute to the teaching in a variety of BA and MA programs, such as the BA programs in European Studies and the MA programs in European Studies and the Research Master European Studies.
- Your responsibilities will encompass tutoring, course coordination, lecturing, and supervision of internships and theses.
- The division of duties will be 60% teaching and management and 40% research, with opportunities for extended research time through external funding.
- Research is carried out within the context of the Research Institute for Arts and Social Sciences and, in particular, relating to the interdisciplinary research programme Politics and Culture in Europe.
- You are expected to develop international research projects and to attract external funding that is related to the faculty’s core research themes.
Requirements
- You have a PhD degree in international relations, political science, European Studies, or another relevant social science discipline with a focus on European Security;
- You have strong expertise on the European Union (EU) and its Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) as well as security studies more generally. You may focus on questions of how the EU and/or its member states develop security and defence policies, European security following the Russian war against Ukraine, the role NATO and transatlantic relations play in European security, EU conflict prevention and peacebuilding, cooperation with other international institutions such as the United Nations, or any other topic related to the EU and the CSDP;
- You are excited to work in an international, interdisciplinary team to collaborate in relation to teaching and research;
- Your record of international peer-reviewed academic publications or publications of similar stature is excellent;
- You are an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and have demonstrated ability in teaching coordination roles, in course development, and in thesis supervision;
- You have an affinity with team-teaching and the teaching philosophy behind our system of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Experience with teaching in international classrooms is preferable;
- Fluency in English is a prerequisite (Cambridge English Proficiency, level C2, orally and written). Non-Dutch-speaking applicants should be willing to learn Dutch (intermediate level).
