Sapphire Series: Real Struggles, High Stakes: Cooperation, Contention, and Creativity

What are the most serious high-stakes struggles members of the International Studies Association (ISA) community face? Many of these are outlined in this year’s call for proposals, including catastrophic climate change, an ever-morphing global pandemic, widening democratic decline, rising economic inequality, increasing violence, worries of geopolitical rivalry and war, alongside deeply entrenched systemic racism and sexism. How should we best think about these – or others? And how can we best respond?
This year’s Sapphire Series will ask differently-situated scholars the same questions in an effort to highlight critical thinking on the extraordinary challenges we face.
