Join IPSA’s Webinar on Predatory Journals and the New Predation Index

Publication date: Thu, 16 Oct 2025

IPSA will host a webinar titled The Predation Index: A Tool to Discover Predatory Journals on 10 November, on the occasion of World Science Day for Peace and Development. In this session, International Political Science Review (IPSR) Co-Editors Daniel Stockemer and Annika Hinze will discuss the issue of predatory journals and introduce the Predation Index, a new online tool on the IPSA website designed to help political science researchers identify potentially predatory publications. The webinar will be moderated by IPSA Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski.

Predatory journals have become omnipresent in academia. Hardly a day goes without a political scientist does not receive a solicitation from a dubious outlet. Yet, we have neither clearly identifiable criteria to help us recognize predatory journals nor the tools to detect them. This short presentation introduces the Predation Index, a tool designed to help researchers detect the degree to which a journal is predatory. Even if there is individual subjectivity in the application of the criteria, we believe that the predation index can be a strong and user-friendly tool for political and social scientists.

The webinar is free of charge, but registration is required.

🗓️ Monday, 10 November 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am (EST).
