The Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP) Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

The Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP) celebrated its 40th anniversary at its 2026 conference, held at the Federal University of Pará in Belém, Brazil, under the theme Worlds in Reconfiguration, Democracies under Dispute: 40 Years Later. ABCP marked its 40th anniversary this year with a membership of 3,400, while the conference drew 1,580 delegates.
On hand to represent the association was IPSA Vice-President and WC2027 Program Co-Chair Vanessa Elias de Oliveira. Prof. Elias de Oliveira delivered remarks at the opening ceremony, inviting ABCP delegates to attend the 2027 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Rome.
On 4 August 2026, Prof. Elias de Oliveira also participated in a roundtable on Challenges for Political Science in the Contemporary Global Context. The roundtable featured Susan Stokes (APSA President, University of Chicago), Magna Maria Inacio (ALACIP President, Federal University of Minas Gerais), Luciana Santana (Federal University of Alagoas), and Bruno Pinheiro Wanderley Reis (ABCP President, Federal University of Minas Gerais).
