- You will write a competitive research proposal and apply for external funding for a longer-term post-doc position (such as a FWO or MSCA post-doc fellowship). Your research proposal will focus on humanitarian diplomacy and/or the creation of international authority.
- You will work under the supervision of Dr. Jorg Kustermans and Prof. Dr. Jan Melissen.
- You will develop your academic profile by establishing a professional network and by publishing your research findings (including from your doctoral research) in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
- You will assist in ongoing research projects and the activities of the International Politics research group.
- You will help coordinate project proposals in the field of Diplomatic Studies/International Relations and contribute to attracting external funding.
- You will fulfil a limited number of teaching activities. You will supervise or assess a small number of MA theses and you will co-teach a seminar in the field of International Relations.
Profile:
- You hold a PhD in Diplomatic Studies, International Relations or a related field from an academic institution outside Belgium (or you will have obtained it by the time you start work);
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies;
- Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision;
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation;
- You can speak and write fluently in English;
- You have the language skills and area knowledge to study your cases of choice in-depth (e.g., Arab language skills to study humanitarian diplomacy in the Islamic world).
What we offer:
- We offer a full-time appointment as a postdoctoral scholarship holder for a period of one year;
- The planned start date is 01 June 2023 or on a later date to be agreed;
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP);
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting;
- You will do most of your work at the Stadscampus of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment;
