Job Description

The professional field of the position as Associate Professor in Political Science is International Relations. The research and teaching background of the person appointed to the position must be related to this research area, and to the strategic research areas and teaching in political science at the Department. 

The Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS) conducts research, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge in sociology, political science, sport science, and media studies. The Department has approximately 100 employees and 12 study programs. ISS is characterized by strong disciplines with emphasis on sociology and political science, contributing to interdisciplinary study programs and research at NTNU.

Required qualifications 

You must have the following qualifications required for the position of Associate Professor:

  • A doctoral degree in Political Science, International Relations, or equivalent, or competence at an equivalent level documented either by scientific work or artistic work of the same scope and quality;
  • Educational competence. You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the NTNUs guidelines for academic positions. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses;
  • After 3 years, it is a requirement that you achieve Norwegian language skills at level B2. If you do not master Norwegian when starting the position, it is a prerequisite that you within three years can demonstrate knowledge of Norwegian at a level equivalent to B2 in the course for non-native speakers held at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU. Language proficiency in Swedish or Danish is considered equivalent to Norwegian;
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
