Job Description

Charles University in Prague is seeking two outstanding postdoctoral researchers with one position focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa and the other focusing on Asia (South Asia, East Asia and/or Southeast Asia). The postdoctoral researchers will be part of the international research group at the newly-established Center for Multidisciplinary Area Studies (CenMAS), funded by the ERA-AREAS Horizon Europe Project. Selected researchers will examine the causes and consequences of contemporary crises which include, but are not limited to, political crises, economic shocks, coups, democratic breakdowns, social protests, early government terminations, threats to democracies, and outbursts of political violence.

We are open for researchers with advanced skills in qualitative, quantitative, computational or mixed methods, combined with a deep contextual knowledge of their region. Selected researchers will have limited teaching duties (i.e., only one course per semester). Applicants should have obtained their PhD no more than five years prior to the application deadline (excluding eligible career breaks such as parental leave, etc.) or are expected to finish their PhD by the start date on 1 April 2027.
