Job Description

At the institute of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, a post as a 

Scientific Employee (m/f/d)

is to be occupied at the earliest possible date. The employment is initially limited to a period of 3 years. It is a qualification position in the sense of the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissen-schaftsvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG), which is to promote the scientific qualification of the employee.

Your tasks:

• Independent research and publications in the context of a dissertation project related to European integration and/or international relations;
• Teaching one course (2 SWS) per semester in the areas of the professorship;
• Limited contribution to the administrative tasks of the professorship.

Our requirements:

• A completed scientific university education (M.Sc. / M.A. / Diploma / Magister) in the field of political science, ideally with very good grades (The degree is a requirement for the position and has to be completed before the start of the position); 
• Interest in the research topics of the professorship (e.g.,democratic backsliding in the EU, differentiated Europeanintegration, EU institutions and decision-making, international parliamentary institutions, parliaments in the EU);
• Very good competencies in social sciences methods and research design;
• Convincing idea for a dissertation topic, demonstrated mainly by a 1-page sketch of the topic (research question, relationship to the most recent literature, thoughts on research design and methods);
• Very good knowledge of the academic literature on the dissertation topic idea;
• Ideally, first experiences in empirical-analytical research, e.g., in the context of a graduation thesis project or research assistantship;
• Very good written and spoken English, demonstrated, e.g., by having taken seminars and degrees taught in English, graduation thesis written in English, or publications in English.

The pay scale grouping will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade 13 TV-L. In principle, the employment can also take place part-time if no compelling official reasons are opposed in an individual case.
