The Department of Political Science seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Political and Social Data Science (https://pol.umontreal.ca).
Responsibilities
The appointed candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, be active in research, publishing, and the transmission of knowledge, and contribute to the activities of the University.
The file of the selected candidate, according to his/her expertise and interest, could be proposed for a position of “IVADO Professor”. These positions offer enhanced starting conditions. The holders will participate in an ambitious project (IAR3) aimed at the development and adoption of a robust, reasoning and responsible artificial intelligence for which IVADO has just obtained an Apogee grant.
Requirements
> Ph. D. in political science or related discipline (Ph.D. candidates who are near completion will also be considered);
> Strong publication record demonstrating a contribution to methodological advances in political and social data science;
> Demonstrated ability to provide high quality university education in computational and statistical methods applied to political science, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to political problems, the analysis of big data, social statistics, and causal inference;
> An adequate knowledge of French or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy;
> An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.

> A cover letter; application must include in the cover letter one of the following statements: “I am a citizen/ permanent resident of Canada.” or “I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.”
> Your curriculum vitæ;
> Three recent publications;
> Three letters of recommendation are also to be sent directly to the Department Chair by the referees.
