The event continues a series of webinars started by the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) in 2019. The webinar will focus on how electoral polls are conducted and published in different parts of the world, what political, methodological or pandemic related difficulties the pollsters face and how they work to overcome them. The webinar features discussion of the following topics:

  • Polling in Hong Kong in Troubled Times  - by Robert Chung, is President of the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute, a continuation of the Public Opinion Program at the University of Hong Kong that he founded in 1991. He is the current vice-president/president elect of WAPOR after serving as secretary-treasurer (2006-2007) and Chair of Liaison (2010-2015). He also authored the 2012 edition of the Freedom to Publish Opinion Polls Report.
  • Experiences with U.S. National Election Polling in 2016 and 2020, using a Probability-Based Internet Panel and Experimental Outcomes Models - by Jill Darling is Survey Director for the Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR), and Director of the USC Dornsife Daybreak Election Poll, at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Jill ‘s current focus is on a broad range of research using CESR’s Understanding America Study, a probability-based internet panel. She spent the first two decades of her career as a newspaper pollster with the Los Angeles Times Poll, conducting national, state, and local telephone surveys and state and national exit polls.
  • Challenges for Election Polls: Reflections for the Mexico 2021 Mid-Term Election - by Alejandro Moreno is Professor of Political Science at ITAM, and Director of Public Opinion Polls at El Financiero, both in Mexico City. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Alejandro Moreno has been president of WAPOR in 2013-2014.
  • Electoral Polls in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Tall Order?  - by Paul Nnanwobu is CEO at Random Dynamic Resources. He has over 25 years experience in market, opinion and social research. He is the Publisher of Research Intelligence Magazine, and currently the Nigeria Representative for WAPOR as well as the current Secretary General of the Nigerian Market Research Association. He holds a post Graduate degree in Journalism and an MBA in International Business.
