Journal/Call for Papers Description

Published since 1971, the African Review hosts intellectual debates and discussions on African politics, development and international affairs. It welcomes theoretical and empirical submissions which are provocative in analyzing the social, economic and political forces that shape the present and future of the continent. Published quarterly, The African Review has for many years established itself as a peer-reviewed academic journal of repute in Africa and beyond.

This special issue stems from the reality that Africa has undergone profound political transformations over the last three decades. The continent embraced multiparty politics and marked an end to apartheid in the early 1990s. Moreover, it has witnessed increasing influence of non-state actors, both domestic and foreign, thus challenging the African state's monopoly of power. Political transformations in Africa have ensued with both positive and negative consequences. The need for this issue originates from the 7th Voices of Social Sciences International Conference which was held from 10th to 11th November 2022 at the University of Dar es Salaam with a theme "Social Sciences and Transformations in the Global South." Therefore, The African Review welcomes interested authors to submit their manuscripts on political transformations in Africa. Contributions may cover, but not limited to, topics on: Democratization, peace and conflicts, aid and development politics, social media and movements, Identity politics, gender, ideologies, regionalism and national building.

How to Submit
Submissions are made online through the Editorial Manager before 30 March 2023. Registration, and access as well as authors guidelines are available at https://brill.com/tare
