Description

In a democratic country, voting behaviour in electoral politics has utmost importance. Voting behaviour has different aspects in different regions in the world, for instance, in India, the major determinants of voting behaviour have been caste, class, tribes, gender, religion, language and ethnicity and these are the broad factors in voting behaviour in South Asia as well. Europe and USA have certain similarities in voting pattern.
With these traditional patterns of voting behaviour, a new revolution has been witnessed with the evolution of AI especially after 2010. The AI based applications have been used in many social media platforms to know the interest and inclination of the users in politics. These users are mainly under the age of 20-55 who participate in electoral politics and one of the major vote bank of any political party in the world. Knowing candidate’s inclination, AI based applications can also facilitate to solidify or influenced the voters through disinformation. The use of AI-generated and targeted content raises concerns about the spread of disinformation, manipulation of political perceptions, voter autonomy, and the quality of democratic participation.
The panel will examine the emerging role of AI-driven social media in electoral politics from different perspectives, with particular attention to political campaigning, voting behaviour, political communication, and democratic participation. It will explore how AI and social media are not replacing traditional determinants of voting behaviour but are increasingly reshaping how political preferences are communicated, targeted, and mobilised. The panel will also discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with the growing use of AI in electoral politics, including political persuasion, disinformation, voter manipulation, digital campaigning, and the changing nature of democratic participation.
