The Department of Political Science and Mass Communications was established in June 2016 by bringing together the Department of General Political Science, the Department of Applied Political Science, the Institute of Effective State and Civil Society, and the Center for Political Science. Despite this fact, there has been a long tradition of teaching political science at the Financial university that stretches back to 80-s of the XX century.
Combining the efforts of teachers, research scientists, the Department of Political Science and Mass Communications is intended to improve the conditions for the formation and development of scientific schools at the Financial University in the political direction, to increase the scale of scientific and research projects and works, to become a recognized center of scientific and research cooperation and partnership, both inside the university and beyond. An important direction of the Department’s work is also constructive interaction with the labor market in order to help young political scientists and public relations specialists in finding employment and realizing their working potential.
Moreover, the Department actively participates in the scientific life of the university. For the last few years the Department has published educational books centered on different socio-political issues such as «Capital of revolutions», «Political science», «Europe under the challenges of the beginning of the XXI century», «Electoral processes in Russia and Europe: practices, institutions and technologies», «Europe in a new world reality» and so on.
The Department is a degree-awarding department. It trains bachelors majoring in Political Science (with the concentration in Public Relations in Politics and Business and Political Science and Economic Processes).
The Department trains masters majoring in Political Science (with the concentration in Political and Economic Foundations of the Modern States' Stability). The program in Political and Economic Foundations of the Modern States' Stability is new. Leading experts and think-tanks are engaged in the teaching process. The graduates of the program work at federal, regional, local government institutions, in the media, publishing houses, PR and GR companies, offices of political parties and community organizations.
