Background

Recognised as a study group in 1976; granted research committee status in 1978.

Objectives

Focuses on the study of democratic processes, with special emphasis on their participatory features. Topics include conceptual and theoretical definitions of pluralism, at specific points in time and through history; structures for the articulation of interests and values, such as group and party systems and social movements; barriers to and opportunities for pluralism within given institutions, such as in business corporations and in the armed forces, as well as in ethnic communities and in religious organisations. Activities: The committee usually meets once a year. New members willing to take an active part in the committee's activities are thoroughly welcome.
