The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of a

University Professor of
MEDIA AND COMMUNCATION STUDIES
with a focus on Democracy Research

at the Department of Media, Society and Communication. It is a position in accordance with §98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG 2002) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). It will be concluded for an unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.

Responsibilities
The professorship focuses on researching the role of media and communication in democracy and democracy development under conditions such as medialization, digitalization and globalization.

The tasks of the professorship include internationally visible research and publications as well as the implementation of competitively acquired research projects.

The teaching of this professorship is located in the area of media and communication studies at the institute. In addition to the university's "Media and Communication" elective package, teaching is also planned in an English-language master's program, which is currently being set up, as well as additional teaching in the area of political communication for political science courses.

Participation in the strategic development and international networking of the Institute for Media, Society and Communication as well as participation in the university's research focus system are expected.

Participation in academic self-administration is another fixed component of the professorship's job profile.

Eligibility requirements

  • A relevant degree in higher education (PhD);
  • A relevant second thesis (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification;
  • high-quality, relevant articles in leading international peer-reviewed journals and book publications in peer-reviewed academic publishers;
  • Proven skills to combine media and communication theory and empirical research of the described research focus;
  • Involvement in international research networks;
  • Evidence of postgraduate academic mobility and international research and teaching experience;
  • Pronounced pedagogical and didactic aptitude/ skills and a record of positively evaluated teaching in media and communication studies;
  • Experience with the successful acquisition of research grants;
  • Very good English; a good level of German is required after two years to fulfill teaching obligations;
  • Social skills and capacity for teamwork.

The basic salary for this position is set down in the collective bargaining agreement for university employees. Professors are in the remuneration group A1. For this position the monthly salary is
