About the Position:

We have a vacancy for an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Political Science.  

The professional field of the position as Associate Professor is public policy and administration. The research and teaching background of the successful applicant must be related to this research area, and to the strategic research areas in political science at the Department. Candidates who also have skills/competence in digitalization and/or work and organization, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS) is committed to carrying out research, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge in sociology, political science, sport science, and media studies.

The Department has approximately 100 employees and 11 study programs. ISS is characterized by strong disciplines with emphasis on sociology and political science, contributing to multidisciplinary study programs and research at NTNU. Duties of the position

  • Specific responsibility for teaching and research in political science, and the field of the position, which is public policy and administration;
  • Participation in teaching activities in accordance with the current study program;
  • Contributing to further development of research in political science, the study programs and teaching practice in political science;
  • Contributing to continuing and further education;
  • Carry out research within his/her professional field and special research interests;
  • Examination work;
  • Responsibility for administrative tasks;
  • Shared responsibility with other academic staff in the Department for academic matters;
  • Supervision of bachelor, master and doctoral candidates within his/her discipline;
  • Responsibility for dissemination of research findings;
  • Representing his/her own field of study and the Department’s discipline in local, national and international multidisciplinary research;
  • Contributing to development of the Department’s discipline-strategic work.

The Associate Professor is obliged to conform with the regulations concerning changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at NTNU.

About the application

  • 5 academic works that the applicant regards as his/her most significant political science contributions;
  • A short description of these works and their contribution to a specific field of research in the announced position;
  • A comprehensive overview of all publications;
  • Name and address of three referees;
  • Research plan;
  • Details of teaching qualifications based on "Documentation of applicant’s teaching qualifications in connection with appointment to an academic position at NTNU”;
  • Details of the projects you have managed, with information about funding, duration and size.

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.

In the assessment of the best-qualified applicant, we will emphasize education, experience and personal suitability as well as your motivation for the position. You will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and undertake supervision of Masters and Doctoral candidates. Evaluation of these skills will be based on documented experience and relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants with teaching experience at university level are preferred. Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.

This means that we pay special attention to the quality and professional breadth of these works. We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place great emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years. Your application will be considered by an expert committee and the most suitable applicants will be invited to interview and to deliver a lecture.
