The Korean Political Science Association (KPSA) is pleased to host the 2023 World Congress for Korean Politics and Society. The 2023 World Congress will be held from June 29 to July 1 at Yonsei University, Seoul. The World Congress for Korean Politics and Society has served over decades as a major vehicle through which scholars, policymakers, and students exchange and share their critical perspectives and innovative ideas for Korean politics and international relations.

The main theme of the 2023 World Congress is “Korea and a New World Order: Issues, Strategy and Sustainability”. Recent challenges including the pandemic crisis, climate change, North Korean nuclear development, the Russia-Ukraine war, and tension in the cross-Strait relation have made huge impacts on daily life in Korea and East Asia. Also, other remaining challenges such as the surge of political polarization, the rise of populist forces, and increasing economic inequality deepen social unrest and democratic instabilities. These challenges not only increase interest in policy experiments to tackle such challenges among policymakers and the general public but also ignite scholarly debates in proposing political strategies to revamp democratic procedures and institutions in the era of the “New World Order.”

The 2023 Congress aims to propose new insights that can address these challenges by bringing together distinguished scholars and professionals around the world. We welcome submissions of papers, full-panel, and round-table proposals for the following sub-themes:

•    Korean Politics and Society in Transformation
•    North Korea and Inter-Korean Relations
•    The Korean Peninsula and Denuclearization
•    New World Order and Korean Response
•    Democratic Response to Global Health Crisis
•    The Future of Democracy in the Era of Great Digital Transformation
•    The Politics of Inequality in East Asia
•    The Dynamics of Peace and Prosperity in the Age of Uncertainty
•    Populist Movements and Political Polarization
•    The U.S.-China Geopolitical Contest
•    International Relations of East Asia
•    Asian Women and Politics
•    Culture and Politics
•    Climate Change and Energy Transition
•    Sustainable Development and the Role of the Government
This exemplary list of themes is neither exhaustive nor exclusive; any panel or paper concerning issues of Korean Politics shall be given the utmost attention, as long as it covers topics under the broad theme of “Korea and a New World Order: Issues, Strategy and Sustainability.”
