The Department of Political Science at Aarhus University is pleased to be hosting the Summer School in 2021 affiliated with the ECPR Standing Group on Political Parties. The academic theme is Theories and Methods in Party Politics.

The Summer School on Political Parties provides young scholars working on various aspects of political parties with theoretical and analytical knowledge with sessions delivered by some of the field’s foremost experts as well as feedback on research projects or research papers. The programme is a unique opportunity for participants to network with each other and with more senior scholars in the field of party politics including party researchers in the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University.

The summer school takes place over six days. The programme is built around the well-known three faces of political parties – parties in the electorate, parties as political organizations, parties in government. The programme consists of a series of lectures as well as in-depth discussions of participants’ research projects, both provided by experts in the field. Since methods and data have become more diverse in the field of party politics, scholars will also pay special attention to issues of methods and data arising in their field of expertise.

How to apply

The application takes place in two steps:

First step: all interested applicants are asked to submit the following material until 15 May through the submission form

  • an extended abstract of the paper they wish to present at the Summer School (500-800 words)

After the Academic Conveners have evaluated all applications, we will let you know by email whether your application has been successful.

Second step: Those applicants that got accepted will then need to register and pay for your attendance (a link will appear on this webpage when registration opens in June). All applicants will be notified in the first week of May about their participation in the Summer School.
