The Executive Committee of the LSE Undergraduate Political Review from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is calling for abstracts for its 2021 Conference, New Challenges, New Perspectives, from undergraduates and young researchers around the world.
Successful applicants will get a chance to present their paper and receive feedback from fellow researchers at the LSEUPR Conference 2021, which is set to take place over Zoom on Wednesday 17th March 2021. Authors of excellent papers will be offered the opportunity to publish their paper in the LSE Undergraduate Political Review.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Paul Apostolidis
Dr. Paul Apostolidis is the Lecturer and Deputy Head of Department for Education of Department of Government in the London School of Economics (LSE). He is the author of The Fight for Time: Migrant Day Laborers and the Politics of Precarity (Oxford University Press 2019), Breaks in the Chain: What Immigrant Workers Can Teach America about Democracy (University of Minnesota Press, 2010), and Stations of the Cross: Adorno and Christian Right Radio (Duke University Press, 2000), as well as co-editor of Public Affairs: Politics in the Age of Sex Scandals (Duke University Press, 2004). He serves on the Executive Editorial Board for the journal Political Theory and specializes in integrating empirical field research with migrant workers into political and critical theory. Prior to joining LSE’s Government Department in June 2019 he taught for twenty-two years at Whitman College in Washington State, USA, where he held the T. Paul Chair of Political Science, founded a nationally recognized public impact undergraduate research programme, and directed Whitman’s undergraduate first-year liberal arts programme. Dr. Apostolidis received his Ph.D. and M.A. from Cornell University and his A.B. from Princeton University.
Submission Instructions
Research from all areas of politics is welcome. We strongly welcome research that combines innovative ideas and academic rigor.
Applicants must be current undergraduate students or from the class of 2020. Each applicant may only submit one proposal. To apply, submit two files (pdf) to lseuprconference2021@gmail.com

- Research title
- An abstract of maximum 300 words outlining the research project you wish to present
- 3 keywords that describe the subfield of the work
File 2: Contact information
Author name, email address, and academic affiliation of the applicant (including university, degree programme, and expected date of graduation).
Important Dates
- The deadline for submissions is Sunday, 3rd January, 2021, 23:59 GMT.
- The author whose abstract has been accepted by the conference will be notified by 10th Feb, 2021.
- The finalized event programme will be published on 1st March, 2021.
- The actual event will be held on 17th March, 2021 via Zoom.
Additional Notes
Although only the abstract is required for the application, the author must be able to provide a complete draft of the paper by 28th Feb, 2021.
Each research presenter will have 15 minutes on the actual day.
