Deputy Director of IADS (Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professorial level)

This is a new Professor/Reader/Senior Lecturer post in one of our academic departments with a three year secondment to the Institute for Analytics and Data Science as Deputy Director. This is a high profile role, which will provide senior academic leadership and demonstrate sustainable excellence in research and education. In the seconded role as Deputy Director of the Institute for Analytics and Data Science, you will be responsible for further expanding the activities of the Institute, developing new activities and a programme of work and supporting the delivery of the UNESCO Chair objectives.
This post involves working closely with the Director of the Institute and UNESCO Chair, Professor Maria Fasli, to provide academic leadership to support the shaping of research, knowledge exchange, education and professional development activities within the Institute for Analytics and Data Science as well as support the delivery of the ambitious programme of work under the UNESCO Chair. On completion of the secondment, you will return to your 'home' department, undertaking the normal range of education, research and leadership/citizenship duties of an academic staff member with Education and Research responsibilities, appropriate to the level of appointment.
The successful applicant may come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, but you will need to have relevant academic expertise in an area related to analytics, data science or big data and be working in a field of one of the University's existing Departments and be returnable to one of the planned Units of Assessment within the University for REF 2020/21. A proven track record of internationally excellent research in areas relevant for this post appropriate to the level of appointment is also essential. In addition, at the Professorial level applicants should have a proven track record of successful academic leadership at a senior level in a higher education institution that includes working with external partners and a track record of successfully initiating and implementing significant research projects which involved a number of internal and external key stakeholders.
You should also hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and relevant academic expertise in an area related to analytics, data science or big data (examples of relevant areas include but are not limited to digital creative economy, quantitative social science, business analytics, computer science or related engineering discipline, mathematics, statistics or visualisation). Other relevant disciplinary areas will be considered provided the applicant fits in a field of one of the University's existing Departments.
This is a permanent, full-time position based at our Colchester campus. The substantive appointment will be as a Senior Lecturer / Reader or Professor in one of our Academic departments, with a three year secondment as Deputy Director of IADS.
