Aiji Tanaka Elected President of Waseda University

We are pleased to announce that Professor Aiji Tanaka (IPSA Past President, 2014-2016 and current Executive Committee member) has been elected President of Waseda University, one of Japan’s leading research universities. His term of office will run from November 2018 to November 2022. On behalf of IPSA and the global political science community, we congratulate Professor Tanaka in his new position.

Aiji Tanaka
Aiji Tanaka, a professor of political science at Waseda University, was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1951. He received B.A. in Political Science from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1975, and Ph.D. in Political Science from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, the USA, in 1985. After completion of his graduate work in the US, he went back to Japan to teach at Dohto University, Toyo Eiwa Women's University, and Aoyama Gakuin University. Then, he went back to his alma mater, Waseda University in 1998. While he has been teaching political science at Faculty of Political Science and Economics, he has served as Associate Dean of School of Political Science and Economics (2000-2002), Dean of Academic Affairs of Waseda University headquarter (2006-2010), and Senior Executive Director for Academic Affairs (i.e., equivalent to Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, directly below the First Executive Vice President and Provost for Academic Affairs) of Waseda University (2010-2014). Dr.Tanaka is now serving as the Director of Global Education Center of Waseda University.
