The American Graduate School in Paris is offering a scholarship for students committed to focusing their graduate work on peacebuilding and social justice. The "Peace and Justice Research Scholarship" aims to support academic research that has real-world applicability in international relations.

This scholarship opportunity is open to students enrolling in Spring 2018 in one of the following AGS degree programs:

  • US-accredited Master of Arts of International Relations and Diplomacy
  • Ph.D. in International Relations and Diplomacy

The scholarship amount covers 50% of the full tuition of the program concerned (see tuition: M.A. | Ph.D. ). Any scholarship amount granted will be applied to tuition only and may not be applied to living expenses or other personal expenses related to the attendance of the program.

Note that students enrolling in one of the dual program options are also eligible. The scholarship amount then only concerns the AGS portion of the tuition. The scholarship amount does not cover optional French classes at Alliance française.

Eligibility
Criteria of consideration for the Peace and Justice Research Scholarship include the following:
1. Students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and excellence, and leadership beyond the classroom.
2. Students must demonstrate specific interest and commitment in working toward peacebuilding and/or social justice through their Master's thesis or Ph.D. dissertation (see section on “how to apply” below)
In the event of a tie between candidates, the AGS Scholarship Committee will take into consideration financial need and favor those who cannot benefit from other forms of financial aid.
Note that the Peace and Justice Research Scholarship may only be awarded to students enrolling in one of the AGS degree programs on a full-time basis. Part-time students and/or students in non-degree programs are not eligible. Other scholarship and financial aid opportunities are available for students without a research proposal. (see financial aid overview).

How to apply
To apply for the Peace and Justice Research Scholarship:
1. Apply to the program of your choice (M.A. or Ph.D. in International Relations and Diplomacy) and indicate your interest on your program application form ( downloadable here). 2. Submit a one to two-page document (between 300 and 500 words) describing your Master's thesis or Ph.D. dissertation project focusing on aspects of peacebuilding and/or social justice. This document should answer the following questions:
What? What is the question that your Master's or doctoral research will seek to answer?
Why? Why is that question important?
How? What is your proposed methodology for answering it?
So what? What are the implications of your research findings in international relations?
3. In addition, you may include any information or documentation that may help to demonstrate your achievements outside of the classroom.
Successful candidates will be sent a Scholarship Contract Agreement at the moment of offer, which must be signed by the student to take effect.
